L’Ostal du Pic St Loup is a Languedoc B&B in the middle of one of the most exciting wine appellations of the south – the Pic Saint Loup AOC  at Saint-Jean-de-Cuculles near Montpellier (34 Hérault, Occitanie).

B&B l'Ostal du Pic Saint Loup

B&B l’Ostal du Pic Saint Loup

The area takes its name from the “Pic” – a dramatic jagged outcrop which dominates the area the foothills of which produce some powerful red wines.

Described as Bohemian in style, a stay at the Ostal du Pic St Loup is a chance to experience life in a small quaint, medieval village, in the heart of a beautiful vineyard. A quiet family home which  combines the comfort and simplicity of a modern house, with the charms of the old one, using stone, wood or lime. The accommodation around the patio or the swimming pool, comprises 4 bedrooms each with private bathroom and independent access. By prior reservation the Ostal offers a “Mediterranean flavors” menu every night, using local products,

Although not a wine producer, the Ostal does offer a chauffeur-driven wine tour of the area. visiting 2 domaines and meeting the winemakers and tasting the wines (fee payable)

Domaine de l'Hortus wineThis area of the Languedoc produces distinctive red wines which are based on Syrah, Grenache , and/or Mourvèdre grapes. The Pic and the he proximity to the Cévennes mountains bring a continental influence to the climate here, despite being only 30km from the Mediterranean, This results in cooler nights and greater temperature variations between day and night.  This combined with the local limestone soils allow grapes and wines to retain higher levels of acidity and fruit freshness than warmer areas in the plains of Languedoc. Our rcommended domaine is Domaine de l’Hortus at Valflaunès, (about 10km away) which produces some of the very best wines of Pic Saint Loup, but also has a fascinating timber winery open to visitors.
