The Chateau is at Monestier(24 Dordogne, Nouvelle Aquitaine). The gîte is in an independent cottage on the farm and has 5 bedrooms sleeping up to 12 people and 5 bathrooms,  the property is well-equipped with a terrace and an outdoor swimming pool and a barbecue!

Monestier is a small quiet wine village, which is also home to our favourite Bergerac producer – Guy Cuisset at the organic Chateau Grinou, about 12 miles/20 kms) southwest of Bergerac. In nearby Saussignac you will also find Chateau Feely, another organic vineyard run by an Irish/South African couple who offer accommodation, wine treks etcThe wines of the Cotes de Duras, Monbazillac and Pecharmant are all within a 30 minute drive, whilst a day trip to Saint Emilion is well worth the slightly longer drive (30 miles/47 kms).

Bergerac

Here the wines are Bergerac AOC, organic dry whites (Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon) and reds (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) some of which are oak-aged, a Cabernet Sauvignon rosé , a sweeter Cotes de Bergerac white and a dessert Saussignac AOC which is also oak-aged. The top of the range is the “L’epicuria de Tourmentine”, which develops very complex aromas after ageing in barrels for 12 months. These are wines in the Bordeaux style, but better value and distinctively different!
