The Chateau Ormes de Pez in St Estèphe is one of the top Cru Bourgeois Chateaux selling for around £200 a case from merchants such as Berry Bros & Rudd in London. St Estephe is the northernmost of the top appellations in the Medoc – that precious peninsular between the Garonne river to the East and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, where much of the best wine in the world is grown. The name of the domaine is thought to come from some very old elm trees dating back to the 18th century.
Few of the top Bordeaux chateaux invite members of the public onto the estate, yet alone offer B&B accommodation such as here in an 18th Century chateau. All rooms are en-suite and have a garden view; there is a swimming pool open June-September, free Wifi.
St Estèphe is one of the most northerly appellations of the Medoc – and close to Pauillac and Chateau Lafitte. and uses a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon,Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Carménère, Côt and Petit Verdot .
