In the Minervois wine region of the Languedoc (11 Aude, Languedoc) Graham and Beatrice Nutter run the splendid Chateau St Jacques d’Albas in Laure-Minervois north east of Carcassonne and offer 2 (self-catering cottages ) on the estate for 4-6 people with an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court and vineyard!
The Chateau St Jacques d’Albas is an emerging quality domaine in the Minervois, Languedoc, Southern France which is surrounded by history from Roman times, the 13th Century Cathar religious movement and Saint Jacques de Compostelle pilgrimages. The domaine has been producing award-winning Minervois AOC wines since 2001, since when the owners have embarked on a programme to re-invigorate the soil, reduce yields and vinify on-site. The domaine now has a public tasting area, as well as a music/seminar room for entertainment and wine-tourism. Both cottages feature a garden, a living room with a fireplace and flat-screen TV and a bathroom, while the larger one has a terrace and BBQ facilities. The kitchens include an oven, dishwasher and microwave.
The domaine produces red Minervois wines from Syrah and Grenache grapes and some red and white Vin de Pays d’Oc wines from the typical Languedoc terrain and climate – an area which Clive Coates MW describes as ”one of the most rewarding areas in the Midi for inexpensive but interesting wines”. The Chateau is about 17km from Carcassonne (Ryanair from London) and a further hour to Toulouse for a wider range of flights e.g with flybe from Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds/Bradford etc
The Chateau is in Laure-Minervois (11 Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon) which is also where one of our preferred wine producers is located – Chateau Gibalaux-Bonnet where the family produce good Minervois wines and vins de pays – the Minervois Cuvée Prieuré (they also offer accommodation)
