The historic wine merchants quarter alongside the banks of the Garonne river – known as the Chartrons was where the negociants (wine brokers) ruled the world of fine wine for many years. They acted as the link between the vineyards and the wine trade, often buying grapes and wine, bottling, ageing and selling then wine wholesale. This allowed the winemakers to concentrate on making fine wines, and kept them away from the business end of selling the wine.

Now one of the iconic buildings of this heritage quarter has been converted into a modern hotel – Mercure Bordeaux Chateau Chartrons logo
