Château de Mazelières is a 17th Century castle, built in the land of Gascony. It lays in the centre of an historic region, only 10km from Nerac, where you can visit the castle of King Henri IV of Navarre. Nestled in the heart of the vineyards of Buzet, on the edge of the land of Armagnac, the Chateau offers appellation Buzet “Chateau de Mazelieres” as one of its most prestigious wines. It won a Gold medal in 2007 and placed in the top 10 of the appellation. The Chateau offers an outdoor swimming pool and spacious rooms furnished in a classical style.Free wifi

Buzet

The Buzet appellation uses the same grapes as Bordeaux (Cabernets, Merlot and Malbec(Cot)) for the reds, although white and rosé wines are also produced. Most of the production is through the excellent local Co-operative cellars (les Vignerons de Buzet), but the Château de Mazelières is one of a small number of independent producers. These wines are in my opinion superior to much of the nondescript wines production of many parts of Bordeaux.Anchored to the hill slopes above the River Baïse, halfway between Bordeaux and Toulouse, the Buzet appellation covers about 2000 hectares not far from the river Garonne.

The co-operative cellars les Vignerons de Buzet are worth a visit for wine tours, tastings and shopping.

This is an attractive region with small medieval villages and rolling countryside and near the western branch of the Canal du Midi (Canal lateral a la Garonne) and wines from Duras, Marmande and Agen.

The Chateau is about 100km from Bordeaux via the autoroute A62

Handy for visits to Castelsarrasin, Moissac, Nerac Cahors…..
