In the depths of the Languedoc in the High Corbières (Haut-Corbières) country – land of the Cathars at Cascastel-des-Corbières is an organic wine estate offering both gites (self-catering) and B&B accommodation at Domaine Grand Guilhem.

This is the area of Corbières where it merges with that of Fitou to produce rich flavourful wines under the hot southern sun. Situated inland of the Mediterranean between Narbonne and Perpignan, the surroundings are delightful, being amongst rolling hills and vineyards – yet away from the bustle and traffic of the coastal strip.

In the small village of Cascastel (11 Aude, Occitanie) the winemakers (Severine et Gilles Contrepois) offer a renovated 19th-century manor house where guests can choose to stay in the gîte (a renovated vine-harvester’s house dating from the beginning of the 20th century) or one of four guest B&B rooms – 3 double en-suite bedrooms and another bedroom which can sleep 6 There is  a swimming pool and solar-powered energy for electricity and hot water.

The Domaine Grand Guilhem is an organic wine producing property of 12 hectares, Fitou wines are full-bodied reds. The dominant grape variety is Carignan which has to constitute 40% of any blend. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah is often included. The wines produced here include both Fitou (red) and Corbières(white and rosé) plus the sweet Muscat de Rivesaltes. These are quality wines which have been well-received in the wine press.
