Just a short distance (4 km/2,7 miles) from the Pont du Gard, the boutique hotel restaurant Domaine des Escaunes is a charming Provencal hotel, close to Remoulins, the arenas of Nimes, the truffle market at Uzès and the Popes Palace at Avignon. From its origin in the 16th century, in the village of Sernhac, the Domain was a Royal hostelry – staging post – where Francis the First, Louis XIII, the future king Henri IV, Cardinal Richelieu and Nostradamus, welcomes you in the 22 various authentic and personalized rooms and suites, combining authenticity and modern comfort.

The traditionally decorated rooms in this tastefully renovated hotel offer views of the vineyards or the Provençal countryside. Rooms are air-conditioned and have private bathrooms with either  bath or shower and free toiletries.

Situated at Sernhac (30 Gard, Occitanie) between Avignon, Nîmes, Uzès and Arles, it is ideally situated to explore the vineyards and historic towns of the southern Rhône Valley.

Costières de Nîmes

Very much Rhone wines, Costières de Nîmes’ reds, rosés and whites reflect the unique character of these wine-lands where everything naturally links back to the Rhône Valley. Costières de Nîmes wines are made from a variety of grapes. Reds and rosés are mainly based on traditional varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and, more of a blending grape, Carignan and Cinsault. The whites are based on Grenache blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, and also Clairette, Bourboulenc, Viognier, Macabeu and Vermentino (Rolle). In all three colours, the blend has to contain at least two varieties.[www.costieres-nimes.org/]
