Minervois Chateau B&B at Ch\u00e2teau La Villatade<\/strong><\/a> is in the heart of Minervois wine country just 15km from the magical medieval city of Carcassonne <\/strong>(11 Aude, Occitanie<\/span><\/em>) and offers self-catering <\/strong> g\u00eetes<\/em> <\/strong>(cottages) and rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The appellation takes its name from Minerve<\/strong>, a village 25 miles (40km) from the Mediterranean coast and surrounded by the southern French foothills. The village is named after the Greek goddess Minerva. and the town has connections with ancient history; with local cave paintings, dating back millenia. Viticulture here dates back to early-Roman times or even earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wines of the Minervois<\/strong> are a blend of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah grapes which do well in the hot southern climate – yet in domaines such as this they are produced to combine robustness with smoothness to yield an elegant red wine.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Minervois appellation was granted in 1985 since when quality has improved considerably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main grape varieties used in Minervois wines are Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Carignan and Cinsaut. Bourboulenc. can also be used, The appellation’s white wines are made from Vermentino, Roussanne, Marsanne and Grenache Blanc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
