In the 19th Century new buildings were added and the place was converted into a wine estate. It was re-opened as a luxury guest house in 2005. The hotel offers a range of en-suite double rooms and family rooms.&nbsp; Free wifi, Swimming Pool, and on site restaurant. For the current owners&nbsp; Christine and Jean-Luc this is their family home, which is typical of the architecture of the Cognac vineyard. The neighbours are all growers and distillers of Cognac, so there is plenty of advice available for touring the local area and distilleries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The hotel is at <strong>Saint-Preuil<\/strong> in the heart of the <em>Grande Champagne<\/em> vineyards, a few kilometres south-east of <strong>Cognac<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p Brandy<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong>Cognac <\/strong>is a variety of distilled brandy named after the town of Cognac in France. &nbsp;It is produced in the wine-growing region surrounding the town from which it takes its name, in the French <em>Departments <\/em>of Charente and Charente-Maritime.&nbsp;&nbsp;For a distilled brandy to bear the name Cognac, its production methods must meet certain requirements. In particular, it must be made from specified grapes, of which Ugni Blanc (known locally as Saint-Emilion) is the one most widely used. &nbsp;The brandy must be twice distilled in copper pot stills and aged at least two years in French oak barrels from Limousin or Tron\u00e7ais. Cognac matures in the same way as whiskies and wine when aged in barrels, and most cognacs are aged considerably longer than the minimum legal requirement.<\/p><p>This area is made up of 73,000 hectares (180,400 acres) of vineyards of which there are six different growing areas. <strong>Grande Champagne<\/strong> is known for making powerful cognacs.
