At the foothills of the Vosges mountains, the fortified wine village of Kientzheim (<\/strong>68 Haut Rhin, Grand <\/strong>Est<\/em>) <\/strong>was founded in the 8th century and is still completely surrounded by ramparts. The is surrounded by the vineyards of the Kayserberg.
The paved streets reveal half-timbered houses, castles, murals, sundials, the mill, the wash house, the fountains, the covered well of the Schwendi square …
The castle of the lower door (the Lali) is the seat of the brotherhood of Saint Etienne d’Alsace. It hosts the Alsace wine museum<\/strong> (Mus\u00e9e du Vignoble et des Vins d’Alsace<\/a><\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village is thought to be where the Tokay grape was introduced to Alsace, but the area is known for its Gewurztraminer and Riesling vineyards.
