La Sauternaise B&B

B&B La Sauternaise
Booking.com

In what used to be the official tasting rooms of the local Sauternes wine syndicate, there is now a comfortable Sauternes B&B owned by Didier and Pascale Galhaud who have faithfully restored the building to its former glory as a centrepiece to the village of Sauternes (33 Gironde, Nouvelle Aquitaine): La Sauternaise.

The renovated 18th Century building has exposed limestone walls, wooden floors, open beams and winding staircases and yet offers four stylish, modetn and comfortable bedrooms each with a Queen or King-size double bed plus a bathroom with either a hammam, a spa bath or a massage shower.

Ideally situated on the Wine Route (route des vins Sauternes et Graves). Didier’s background is in the local wine business and his knowledge and respect for the history and reputation of the appellation of Sauternes speaks volumes. So he’s the guy to go to foe advice on places to visit, taste,or buy. There are two decent auberges/restaurants within 100 metres of the B&B,

Sauternes

Sauternes is known for its rich and expensive still, white dessert wines such as Chateau d’Yquem (2 miles/ 3 km away) and was recognised as being of the highest ranking wines as a Premier Grand Cru classé in the official classification of 1855 . The neighbouring appellation of Barsac is similar in style but without the extraordinary price tag of Chateau d’Yquem.

Sauternes is situated about 25 miles /40 km south of Bordeaux and about 27 miles / 43 km from Saint Emilion
