In the 19th century, the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 awarded the wine the status of “Grand Cru Classé” .The famous 1855 wine classification contained more wines from Margaux than from any other appellation, and its best-known vineyard, Château Margaux, was one of only four wines to be awarded the Premier Cru status. Described as “producing wines that are among the most sensual and alluring of Bordeaux” – “Lovely crushed raspberry and cream on the nose and a deliciously velvety mouthful, like cold raspberry ripple ice-cream on warm summer pudding.
