The wine town of Cahors (46 Lot, Occitanie) now boasts a new modern hotel on banks of the River Lot with views of the iconic medieval Pont Valentré: the Best Western Plus Hotel Divona

From the terrace overlooking the Lot River, the Best Western Plus Hotel Divona provides stunning views of the Pont Valentré, yet you are only a short walk from the bustling town centre. A very modern hotel with air conditioning, it is quite a contrast to the very French style of this southern town, which lies at the heart of the Cahors wine region, where the Malbec grape rules. The town lies in a loop of the Lot River and there is a lively, colourful market on Wednesdays and Saturdays by the Cathedral.

Cahors

Cahors is a long established red wine based on the Malbec grape – long before the grape became fashionable in South America. Historically it tended to be a rich and quite tannic wine, but many local producers now offer a fruitier, more accessible style which nevertheless retains the essential character of the grape, sometimes matured in oak. In the town wine enthusiasts should visit Villa Malbec a tasting and information centre in Place Francois Mitterand as part of the Tourist Office.

Our wine recommendation is Domaine du Prince at Cournou, although there are many other small and larger producers to visit.
