The historic wine merchants quarter alongside the banks of the Garonne river – known as the Chartrons was where the negociants (wine brokers) ruled the world of fine wine for many years. They acted as the link between the vineyards and the wine trade, often buying grapes and wine, bottling, ageing and selling then wine wholesale. This allowed the winemakers to concentrate on making fine wines, and kept them away from the business end of selling the wine.
Now one of the iconic buildings of this heritage quarter has been converted into a modern hotel – Mercure Bordeaux Chateau Chartrons
The spacious air-conditioned guest rooms are decorated in a contemporary style. They are well equipped with modern comforts including satellite channels on a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi access and en suite facilities.
Situated just a few paces from the River, the hotel is ideally situated for getting to all the main sights of Bordeaux, including the newly opened Cité du Vin
