Colmar (68 Haut-Rhin, Grand Est) is famed for being the wine capital of Alsace, and as well as an important commercial centre it is also an attractive town with the old Little Venice area crossed by canals.

Although not on a vineyard, these charming appartments are well-situated in an 18th Century building in the medieval centre of the town of Colmar. which is an ideal location for exploring many of the best vineyards and wine villages of Alsace.

All apartments feature a living room with a flat-screen TV, wooden flooring and a bathroom, while some have a view of the canal and a washing machine. The kitchen includes a microwave and refrigerator. Shops and restaurants all within easy walking distance.

Alsace wine bottle

Alsace

The wines of Alsace are predominantly white, dry and elegant and are identified by the grape variety – Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Blanc. There is a small amount of red made from Pinot Noir; some sweeter dessert wines from late-harvested grapes (vendanges tardives) and some decent sparkling Crémant d’Alsace. The still wines are in german style fluted bottles often with Germanic-looking script on the labels, reflecting the region’s turbulent past. BUT – the style of the wines and the winemakers is decidedly French!
