Corsica, although a French island nowadays. many of the region’s winemaking traditions and its grape varieties are Italian in origin with the Nielluccio grape for reds and Vermentino for dry whites. Sweeter white wines from Muscat grape are also made on Corsica. Wine has been made on the island for 2,500 years, and the latest generation of vignerons have dramatically improved the quality of Corsican wine. Wine makers sell a lot of their production direct to the public, so mostly welcome visitors without an appointment. They specialise in traditional local grapes and, in a very Corsican peculiarity, there is no VAT (tax) on local wine!
