Fleurie (69 Rhône, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) is the home to one of the 10 Beaujolais Crus it is also where the appropriately named Hotel des Grands Vins (Hotel of the Great Wines) is located.
Booking.comSet in the heart of the vineyards and run by winemakers, this is a comfortable hotel with ensuite rooms and a swimming pool with sauna – there is a pretty terrace and a fishpond to sit by.
The Beaujolais is a pretty region with wine villages on the hillsides and more substantial towns such as Mâcon and Lyon in the flatter valley of the River Saône, which flows into the mighty Rhône in Lyon.
Plenty of vineyards to visit including a Maison des Vins in Fleurie, which showcases all the local producers and is manned each weekend by one of them , showing his wines for tasting (and purchase). Nearby, in Romanèche-Thorins (71 Saône-et-Loire, BFC) is the Hameau Dubeouf – a sort of wine theme-park! Although Georges Duboeuf was a great self-publicist and marketeer, this can provide an interesting introduction to wine and Beaujolais and even offers diversions for the children!
