The Domaine Calmel & Joseph is a wine-producing estate at Montirat (11 Aude, Occitanie) near Carcassonne producing Corbieres wines and others from the Languedoc.
This unique wine estate, a stone’s throw from Carcassonne, nestles in a 160-hectare valley in the foothills of the Val de Dagne, Alaric mountain and the Hautes Corbières. Surrounded by spectacular landscape, it is just minutes from Carcassonne’s medieval citadel and the Canal du Midi, both listed as Unesco World Heritage sites.
The four fully renovated gîtes offer many activities for guests during their stay with a sun terrace, a sauna and an indoor swimming pool. You can relax by the pool or in the sauna and enjoying various sporting activities (horse trekking, hiking, mountain biking) on the estate’s land and along the numerous paths and trails in the area, including the GR36 long distance walking route which runs alongside the estate.
The wines include Corbières and a Minervois, which is a Languedoc blend of 50 % Syrah, 30 % Grenache, 20 % Carignan. The 2014 vintage is a wine which is less opulent than its predecessor, but just as elegant. Initial aromas of boxwood, wild juniper and cistus flowers give way to notes of red fruit, cherry and redcurrant. The sensation in the mouth is delicate, smooth and balanced, with a succulently fruity and spicy middle palate that is reminiscent of the scents of the south after a summer rain shower. A very gracious and promising wine.
