Alsace is probably the prettiest wine region in France – vine-covered hills, characterful villages and rustic timber-framed cottages all combine with a surprisingly sunny climate and some truly interesting wines. At Beblenheim (68 Haut-Rhin, Grand Est) the Kanzel Suites Residences offers superb self-catering accommodation amongst the vineyards:-

Located in a charming wine village on the Alsace Wine Route, Kanzel Suites Residences features traditional Alsatian architecture. and is surrounded by vines and woodland. The well-appointed self-catering studios and suites include a kitchen and en-suite facilities. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool and a sauna. Guests can relax on the terrace of the floral garden or have a drink in the wine cellar. Breakfast is available in the hotel.
Alsace wines

The wines of Alsace are predominantly white, dry and elegant and are identified by the grape variety – Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Blanc. There is a small amount of red made from Pinot Noir; some sweeter dessert wines from late-harvested grapes (vendanges tardives) and some excellent sparkling Crémant d’Alsace. The still wines are in german style fluted bottles often with Germanic-looking script on the labels, reflecting the region’s turbulent past. BUT – the style of the wines and the winemakers is decidedly French!
Beblenheim is only 20 minutes from Colmar and close to many of the best Alsace wine villages, such as Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé.
