The cottage backs onto our chai (wine store) and looks out over a small quiet valley where some of our best parcels of vines grow. It is a magical place, and very tranquil, the nearest visible neighbours being at least two kilometres away. With 3 bedrooms, bathroom, well-equipped kitchen and a terrace surrounded by vines.
There is a large dining room, a fully equipped kitchen, a sitting room with stairs leading to the three bedrooms on the upper floor.
The vineyard is one of the oldest in the region, albeit with modern ideas and techniques. The vineyard is converting to organic status which should be complete by 2014.
The vineyard produces some excellent Côtes de Duras AC, especially the crisp dry white Sauvignon Blanc, as well as a whole range of red, white and rosé wines. The reds tend to be based on the Bordeaux mix – Cabernets and Merlots but with a distinctive style of its own!
The popular village of Duras is worth visiting with its Chateau, whilst Bergerac, St Emilion and Bordeaux are within reach. In Duras there is a Maison des Vignerons where you can taste, buy and learn about these under-rated wines. There is also a good hotel/restaurant in the Hostellerie des Ducs where the food has been very good on numerous ocassions.
