Vouvray wines are based almost exclusively on the Chenin Blanc grape and are most often found as dry, sparkling (petillant) white wines, but some vintages can produce sweet wines and even rich dessert wines which can age for many years. So be sure you know what you are buying.Recommended winery is the nearby Chateau Moncontour. which consistently produces great quality wines across all the styles of Vouvray wines. They also have a wine museum! The local wine co-operative is the Cave des Producteurs de Vouvray representing about 40 wine growers, which is a little further back from the river. Here you will find a good range of wines at keen prices. Just across the river is the appellation of Montlouis-sur-Loire which also produces Chenin Blanc wines, which tend to be a touch less acidic than those of Vouvray.
