Château La Closerie de Fronsac, Fronsac

Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac are red wines from the right bank of the Dordogne river north-west of Libourne near Pomerol and Saint Émilion. The wines tend to be an early-drinking alternative to the more expensive wines found in the region and hence more affordable. The domaine produces 2 wines – Château Clos Saint Michel and Château Reynaud. The Clos St Michel is in the Canon-Fronsac appellation and is made from 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and is aged in oak barrels for 12 months.
Whether you are a wine lover, a history buff or looking for adventure, the varied experiences on offer will help you discover the secrets of this micro-wine estate and the authenticity of its 18th century architecture. From intimate tastings guided exclusively by the cellar master to mountain bike or e-bike rides through the vineyards.
All vintages come from micro-plots and are vinified separately. The harvest, carried out exclusively by hand at optimum maturity, is quickly transported in crates to refrigerated vats. The three micro-plots, the largest of which does not exceed 1.87 ha, allow the production at least three distinct vintages. This plot-by-plot vinification guarantees precise control of the fermentation processes, adapted to each terroir, in order to fully express their singularity and include Clos Saint Michel (85% merlot – 15% Cabernet Franc) and Château Reynaud (100% Merlot)
The chateau is well-positioned for visiting Bordeaux (45km /30 miles) and St Emilion (15km /10 miles).
