La Citadelle de Blaye – Hotel

At Blaye (33 Gironde, Nouvelle Aquitaine) there is a UNESCO listed 17^th century Citadelle built by Vauban which also houses a hotel within the ramparts – Logis Hotel de la Citadelle.

In April there is a wine festival  within the walls of the Citadelle where local winemakers (Cotes de Bordeaux) offer tastings of their wines.

Cross the river and you can explore the wines of the Medoc or venture north into Cognac country
