The ancient Cour Cheverny vineyards were planted in the reign of François 1st. But the wines under the Cour-Cheverny appellation are distinctively different with white wines from the Romorantin Grape, which is only grown in this area and which produces intense, minerally wines. Cheverny wines are made from more traditional grapes varieties such as Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay for the whites, and Cabernet Franc for the reds.
