Santenay Gite – The wine village of Santenay-le-Haut (21 Côte d’Or, BFC) is in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte d’Or vineyards, where the Le Gite de la mère Poulot, offers a self-catering house looking out directly onto the vines.

The wines of Santenay are not held in such high regard as those from further north in Burgundy, as their style tends to be more rustic than refined. This may be due to Santenay’s particular terroir, which has a large proportion of marlstone. Most of the vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir grapes, although a few parcels are planted with Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc varieties, yielding a rare and interesting white wine, generally quite firm and opulent.
