Entre-deux-Mers is home to various wines of differing styles, from the sweet botrytis white wines  of Cadillac, Loupiac and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont to the dry table wines of Sainte-Foy, Haut-Benauge and Graves de Vayres. Wines labelled as  Entre-deux-Mers refers to dry white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscadelle and Ugni Blanc grapes. Yet the majority of wine produced in the region is not sold under any of these labels, and is instead sold as generic Bordeaux or as Bordeaux Superieur.

Entre-deux-Mers is a large sub-area of Bordeaux wine region . Its name translates literally as ‘between two seas’, although the ‘seas’ are the rivers – the Garonne and Dordogne, which form the area’s boundaries to the north and south.Entre-deux-Mers occupies a substantial quadrant of the Bordeaux region, stretching from Bordeaux city in the west almost all the way to the limits of Bergerac in the east. The landscape is mostly fertile and green with gently rolling hills . The soils are predominantly alluvial (sand and clay) – reflecting the  name and location.
