The Saint Mont Monastery (Le Monastere de Saint Mont) is an historic building dating back to the 10th/12th Century. which overlooks the village. But from April 2019 the monastery opened as a boutique luxury 4-star hotel complete with gourmet restaurant, wine bar, spa,tennis court and swimming-pool. Free wifi 
Situated at Saint Mont (32 Gers, Occitanie) the Saint Mont Monastery (Le Monastere) hotel is in the heart of the Madiran vineyards of the respected Plaimont wine co-operative, who now own the property.
Whilst the often tannic Madiran (made from the Tannat grape) is the premier wine in this area, the dessert Pacherenc-du-Vic-Bihl is worth seeking out, whilst some excellent Cotes de Saint Mont and Vin de Pays des Cotes de Gascogne are very agreeable and great value. The Saint Mont Monastery also produces its own fine wine: Monastere – an oak-aged Cotes de Saint Mont red made from Tannat, Pinenc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from 5 hectares of the vines surrounding the hotel.
There is a wine cellar in the village for tastings/purchases or try the wine in the hotel’s restaurant or the wine and tapas bar-Les Berets Noirs
This is one of my favourite areas of France – quiet, rolling countryside with small villages, few major towns or autoroutes, yet within reach of the Pyrenees, Toulouse . Lourdes and Pau. Around Pau you must explore the dry and dessert white wines of Jurançon.
