Citadelle de Blaye – Hotel

At Blaye (33 Gironde, Nouvelle Aquitaine) there is a UNESCO listed 17th century Citadelle built by Vauban which also houses a hotel within the ramparts – Logis Hotel de la Citadelle.

The hotel and Citadelle are within the town of Blaye and offers views across the Garonne estuary to the Medoc. There is also a ferry across the river (vehicle and pedestrian).

In April there is a wine festival  within the walls of the Citadelle where local winemakers (Cotes de Bordeaux) offer tastings of their wines.

Cross the river and you can explore the wines of the Medoc or venture north into Cognac country
